Immersed in nature
The natural beauty of the hinterland
If you travel the roads and trails of Baronia, be prepared for frequent changes of scenery. In the few miles that separate the long sandy beaches from the peaks of Montalbo, the landscape is constantly changing. In the plains and hills, wilderness areas coexist with traditional agriculture, flamingos and herons inhabit the ponds next to the grazing of sheep and horses, but a short distance from the population centers, nature shows the grandiose beauty made up of boundless spaces that guard an extraordinary biodiversity.
Baronia guards a natural heritage of inestimable value: The Tepilora Regional Park and two Sites of Community Interest, the coastal Berchida-Biderosa and the Montalbo.
The Tepilora Regional Park, Rio Posada and Montalbo have received Unesco Biosphere Reserve recognition. It is a boundless territory that from sea level exceeds 1,000 meters on the peaks of Montalbo. Itineraries on foot, by bike or kayak involve all the senses. Strong emotions are experienced crossing the desert of snow-white rock in treks on Montalbo from which there are extraordinary views of the sea and toward the spectacular colors of sunset.
Other excursions follow forest trails that lead to perennial springs of very fresh water or into the intimacy of a primary forest that has resisted the forest cuts of the 19th century. Immersed in nature are also the mountain bike trails, the coastal ones leading to Berchida and Biderosa wind through Mediterranean scrub and pine forests, always running a short distance from the sea, reaching the dune areas of Capo Comino colonized by junipers and continuing along a fascinating and wild stretch of coastline.

Tepilora Park’s itineraries are passable throughout the year thanks to Baronia’s mild climate. You will discover breathtaking views and a wide variety of flora and fauna species; among vigorous holm oaks, strawberry trees, junipers and cork trees live the Sardinian hare, wild boar and fox. With a little luck it is possible to spot fallow deer and mouflon and, near Tepilora Point, the golden eagle.
The Park’s villages guard a rich historical and archaeological heritage, preserve ancient traditions and hand down the secrets of handicrafts and recipes of Baronian cuisine.
Have a good trip!
