A medieval mountain town on the border between Baronia and Gallura in northeastern Sardinia: beautiful scenery, deep-rooted traditions and good food are its attractions

In the Middle Ages the southern limit of the giudicato of Gallura, now the border between the provinces of Nuoro and Sassari, stretches out at the foot of Mount Calvario, surrounded by the Mount Albo chain and the granite reliefs of the neighboring villages. Lodè is a mountain town in upper Baronia of 1,700 inhabitants, part of the authentic villages of Italy, whose territory is made fertile by springs and riu Mannu, which forms the waterfall of sos Golleos. The village of agro-pastoral tradition has stone houses with wooden balconies, ‘broken’ streets, narrow alleys and porticoes, arranged around medieval churches: the parish church of Sant’Antonio abate, in whose honor fires are lit in mid-January, the churches de su Rimediu and della Vergine d’Itria. Characteristic is the country church of St. John the Baptist, celebrated in late June with a palio in his honor. Very heartfelt is the carnival with masks typical of the village(sas mascheras nettas and su Maimone) and suggestive are the rites of Holy Week. During the celebrations you will savor gastronomic specialties.
